INVISTA, the world's leading producer of synthetic fibers and polymers, recently announced that it will build a large manufacturing plant in Shanghai that produces nylon 6,6 yarns. The plant, which has an annual production capacity of 11,000 tons, is expected to start construction at the end of this year.
It is reported that the factory will produce high-tough nylon 6,6 yarns with advanced technology. These yarns will be used in special industrial textile applications, mainly in the automotive airbag industry. INVISTA has also become the only company in the world with airbag fiber production capacity in Europe, North America and Asia.
The new manufacturing facility will use the same technology base as INVISTA's Gloucester UK and Kingston, Canada, enabling INVISTA to produce the same type of high-tech yarn in every major region of the world to meet global Demand, as well as specialized products tailored to local needs.
The plant is scheduled to be completed and put into production in the first quarter of 2008. INVISTA chose to build a plant in Shanghai because Shanghai is close to the main automotive supply chain and can play a synergistic effect with other INVISTA plants in the region.
