Fiberweb continues to expand spunbond production

Fiberweb, the nonwovens division of the BBA Group, will invest $25 million to add a Reifenh®user-4 spunbond line with an annual production capacity of 20,000 tons in Norr Köping, Sweden. The 5.2-meter-wide production line will update the existing technology and increase production capacity by 50%. It mainly produces high-quality light and thin sanitary fabrics, and consumes users with first-class technical services to meet the challenges of market development and sales competition. Recently, Fiberweb also invested in a plant in San Jose Iturbide, Mexico, to double the spunbond capacity; technically renovate old equipment in the US and Europe, and expand the production of Fiberweb systems in Asia.
BBA Fiberweb has also made great progress in developing two-component polymers and their spunbond fabrics. It is reported that it has established a joint venture with Dow Chemical Co., Ltd. to produce stretchable spunbond nonwovens for superior performance in medical and apparel and hygiene products. In addition, the polyethylene and polypropylene two-component spunbond products can not only exert the flexibility of polyethylene but also the abrasion resistance of polypropylene.
In 2004, Fiberweb's sales of nonwoven products accounted for the fourth place in the nonwovens industry's top 40, up to $1 billion.
